Where it is
Warangal is a historic city in northern Telangana on the Deccan Plateau, north-east of Hyderabad, forming a tri-city with neighbouring Hanamkonda and Kazipet.
History
Warangal was the capital of the Kakatiya dynasty, which moved its seat here from Hanamkonda and ruled much of the eastern Deccan until the Delhi Sultanate conquered the city in 1323. It then passed to the Musunuri Nayakas, the Bahmani Sultanate and the Qutb Shahis of Golconda, and later became part of the Nizams' Hyderabad State.

Warangal's people speak Telugu, with Urdu also spoken, and the region celebrates Bathukamma, the flower festival of Telangana, and Bonalu. Weaving cotton durries and farming are traditional livelihoods.
