Nha Trang is a coastal city in Khanh Hoa province on the south-central coast of Vietnam, on a wide bay of the South China Sea dotted with islands.
The Cham people built the Po Nagar temple towers here between the 7th and 12th centuries. The French developed Nha Trang as a resort, and it is now one of Vietnam's best-known beach cities.
Nha Trang's people speak Vietnamese, and the city lives from the sea, with fishing fleets, seafood markets and the hotels along its beach.
The waters around Hon Mun island off Nha Trang became Vietnam's first marine protected area.
