Kasauli is a small town and cantonment in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India, on a ridge of the lower Himalaya, about 77 km from Shimla and 58 km from Chandigarh.
The British established Kasauli as a cantonment and hill station in 1842, and it kept its colonial character, with churches, old cottages and a research institute founded in the early 20th century.
Kasauli's people speak Hindi and Pahari, and the town is small and quiet, its life shaped by the cantonment, the old school and the visitors who come up from Chandigarh and Delhi for weekends.
Christ Church in Kasauli dates from the 1840s and is one of the oldest churches in the hills of northern India.
