Havelock Island, officially Swaraj Dweep, is one of the largest islands of Ritchie's Archipelago, east of Great Andaman in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, in the South Andaman district.
The island was named after the British general Henry Havelock in the 19th century and was settled after Indian independence largely by families from Bengal. It was renamed Swaraj Dweep in 2018.
Havelock's villages were settled after 1947 largely by families from Bengal, so Bengali is widely spoken alongside Hindi, and many islanders farm, fish and run the island's guesthouses and dive centres.
Havelock's villages are known by numbers, such as Village No. 3 and Village No. 7, a legacy of how the island was settled.
