Bring one either way, plus walking shoes. February to April brings drier weather.
Gardens by the Bay is a large park on reclaimed land beside Marina Bay in central Singapore, made up of the Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central gardens along the waterfront.
Gardens by the Bay grew out of the government's plan to make Singapore a City in a Garden. An international design competition in 2006 was won for Bay South by the British firms Grant Associates and Wilkinson Eyre, and the gardens opened in 2012 with two giant glass conservatories and the Supertree Grove.
The gardens are a shared space for Singapore's Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian communities, who come for evening walks, picnics and the nightly light show. Its Heritage Gardens trace the plants that matter to each community, and the Flower Dome's displays mark occasions such as Chinese New Year.
The Supertrees are vertical gardens up to about 50 m tall, and some are fitted with solar panels or serve as exhausts for the cooled conservatories.
