Wadi Wurayah's waterfall
November to April, when it's mild. Bring your snorkel gear for the east-coast beaches and coral.
Snorkel off the coast, then visit the Al Bidyah Mosque, Fujairah Fort, Snoopy Island and the Friday Market, and head into the Hajar mountains.

Yes, into Fujairah (FJR) — or fly into Dubai (DXB), about 1.5 h away. Once there, grilled fish is the meal to have.
Fujairah is the only one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates whose coast lies wholly on the Gulf of Oman, a strip of beaches backed by the Hajar Mountains that separate it from the rest of the country.
This coast has been on the sea routes between Arabia, Persia and India for thousands of years, and forts and watchtowers guard its wadis and villages. Long under the influence of Sharjah, Fujairah was recognised by Britain as a Trucial State of its own only in 1952, the last to be, and it became a founding emirate of the UAE in 1971.
Emiratis of the east coast, among them the Sharqiyin tribe, traditionally lived from fishing, date palms and farming in the mountain wadis. Arabic is the main language and English is widely used, and traditions such as net fishing from the beaches and Friday bull-butting contests carry on.
The small Al Bidyah Mosque, built of stone and mud brick and thought to date from the 15th century, is often described as the oldest mosque in the UAE still in use.
