The Grand River South East waterfall, on the boat in
It's about 1 hour by road from SSR International (MRU) to the jetty. On the boat in, look out for the Grand River South East waterfall.
Snorkelling and parasailing, or a catamaran trip with a beach barbecue.
May to December, when it's cooler and drier. Bring swimwear and sunscreen.
Belle Mare beach and Trou d'Eau Douce are on the list too.
Île aux Cerfs is a small island in the lagoon off the east coast of Mauritius, in the Flacq district, reached by boat from Trou d'Eau Douce and near the mouth of the Grand River South East.
Like the rest of Mauritius, the island was uninhabited before the Dutch arrived in the 17th century, and it later passed under French and then British rule. It became a favourite day-trip island in the late 20th century, and a golf course now covers much of it.
Île aux Cerfs has no village of its own; the boatmen, cooks and guides who work there come mostly from Trou d'Eau Douce and other villages on the Flacq coast, where people speak Mauritian Creole and French and fishing is a long tradition.
